08/26/08 UPDATES:

Seattle (coincidentally all-male) quintet, THE GIRLS, are set to release their sophmore record, Yes No Yes No Yes No, this fall. The record will be released by Portland's Dirtnap Records, who has been responsible for stellar releases from the likes of the Exploding Hearts, the Expoxies, the Briefs, Modern Machines, Busy Signals, etc. THE GIRLS wear their influences tastefully on their sleeve and you will surely catch whiffs of bands like Richard Hell and the Voidoids, the Cars, Devo and Wire. Look for the band to support their new release with more tours than a musem, including outtings with Flogging Molly, Pink Spiders, Ben Weasel and more!

Details for the Volcom Tour have been released, prepare to be stoked! This year, the tour has grown significantly and features Motorhead, Misfits, Airbourne, Valient Thorr and Year Long Disaster. Volcom is already planning ahead for next year and looks like the tour is gonna continue to grow from here! The 2008 Volcom Tour is a co-headlining bill between the Misfits and Motorhead. This is the first time the bands have toured North America together and the first US Tour in 7 years for Motorhead who will be supporting the Auguest release of their new album Motorizer!

We are stoked to welcome Portland's own, OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN, to the 230 roster. The band's debut, Recklessly She Split the Sea (out this fall on Portland Buzz label, Bladen County Records), captures a band with a knack for sonic theatrics. The Willamette Week probably summed it up best when they said "Evoking three different branches of the pop family tree- the Beatles, Queen and Radiohead- OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN offers distinct vocals and a gripping live show."

Also new to the 230 roster, FACING NEW YORK are set to release their sophmore album, Get Hot, on Five One Inc this fall. In early 2008, FACING NEW YORK found itself in the midst of an almost monastic paring down. The once five-manned modern prog powerhouse had become three, sharing meals and sleeping on the same floor of an old Berkeley homestead. Relentless as ever, FACING NEW YORK went back into the studio and emereged with an amazingly ambitious record that deals with mid 20s confusion, masculinity, and love and often deploys humor as a means of handling or purposely circumventing the issue. The band has already toured with the likes of Cursive, Subtle, Taking Back Sunday and Tera Melos and will be supporting Get Hot with lots more touring!

08/20/08 UPDATES:

THE DIRTBOMBS TO TOUR WITH TV ON THE RADIO, CONTINUE TO BE ONE OF THE BEST LIVE BANDS ON THE PLANET
In another installment of the never-ending Dirtbombs tour saga, the band has recently announced dates supporting TV on the Radio. The influential Detroit supergroup comprised of Mick Collins (guitar, vox), Ko Melina (bass, vox), Troy Gregory (bass), Pat Pantano (drums) and Ben Blackwell (drums) just came off a tour supporting Spiritualized which was preceded by headlining tour of its own. The dates are all part of The Dirtbombs’ greater plan to promote the critically acclaimed release We Have You Surrounded (In the Red Records), and of course to hone its on-stage skills and uphold the reputation of being one of the best live acts on the planet.

THE ROSEWOOD THIEVES TO TOUR BEHIND RISE AND SHINE, RECORD EP OF SOLOMON BURKE COVERS
Brooklyn band The Rosewood Thieves are scheduled to hit the road at the end of August for a month-long tour which will lead them out to beautiful Morrison, Colorado to play the Monolith Festival at Red Rocks. The shows will be in support of The Thieves' first full-length record Rise and Shine, which was self-released in May. Rise and Shine follows two EPs, From the Decker House, which was released by V2 in 2006 and included the song "Los Angeles" (featured in episodes of Entourage and Grey's Anatomy) and the latest EP entitled Lonesome, released by the band last year. The jangly Americana feel of the records have earned the band comparisons to everyone from White Album era Beatles to Bob Dylan to Wilco. The band is currently working on another EP, this time of Solomon Burke covers, which will be released by the end of this year.

NEW ORLEANS ORGANIST EXTRAORDINAIRE QUINTRON REVEALS TOO THIRSTY 4 LOVE DETAILS, ANNOUNCES TOUR
Quintron's Too Thirsty 4 Love finds New Orleans' favorite son and finest organist all over the map in the best possible sense of the word- from the sultry bedroom funk of "The Boss Wants to Party with You" to the boozy skiffle of "Sunday Night" to the experimental minimalism of "Reborn." Whether he's re-imagining The Police's "Roxanne" on the title track or inspiring the crowd with the catchy party anthem "Model Ex Citizen," the mood is raucous fun, the place is Cajun Atlantis and the sound is undeniably pure Quintron.

ABE VIGODA ANNOUNCES SHOWS WITH VAMPIRE WEEKEND, MAD DECENT TOUR WITH DIPLO, TELEPATHE AND BOY BIT 8
Abe Vigoda recently returned home to Los Angeles after a month long tour with No Age and High Places, but the exuberant youngsters don’t plan to stay put for long. Following a performance at L.A.’s Fuck Yeah Fest over Labor Day weekend, Abe Vigoda will join up with everyone’s favorite ivy leaguers Vampire Weekend for a few California dates before the band heads out on The Mad Decent tour supporting Diplo, Telepathe and Boy 8 Bit. The tour includes stops on both coasts as well as some Canadian dates.

In the wake of the tour and the release of its brand new album Skeleton on Dean Spunt of No Age’s label PostPresentMedium, Abe Vigoda has quickly become one of the most talked about bands of the summer. Skeleton received an 8.3 Pitchfork rating, and Michael, Juan, David and Reggie are currently featured in a beautiful spread in The Fader’s music issue. Sure, it doesn’t hurt that they are little brothers to bands like No Age, Health and Mika Miko in LA’s Smell scene, and it helps to have friends in High Places (pun intended), another band on the receiving end of “band to watch” hype, but with Skeleton, Abe Vigoda has established itself as a band that deserves to bask in the glow of any praise that comes its way.

THE SWAYBACK AWARDED DENVER'S BEST ROCK BAND, DOES NPR COLORADO MATTERS SESSION, RECORDS FOLLOW UP WITH FAMED PRODUCER ANDY JOHNS

The momentum just keeps building with no sign of slowing down for The Swayback in the wake of the release of its latest album Long Gone Lads. There is no question that the group has paid its dues in the Colorado rock scene, and its hometown alternative weekly newspaper Westword awarded The Swayback for its years of hard work with the title of Denver's best rock band. In addition, Westword music editor Dave Herrera put together his Denver rock dream team and The Swayback's Billy Murphy and Eric Halborg were his choices for guitar and bass respectively. The fine folks over at NPR recently took notice of the mounting buzz, and interviewed the boys for a "Colorado Matters" session. Tune in here to hear the interview with The Swayback, songs from their new record Long Gone Lads, as well as an exclusive live recording from JINXED! (http://www.westword.com/bestof/2008/award/best-unorthodox-dj-night-jam-session-749497), an improv night that takes place at Denver's Rockbar on Wednesday nights.

The local press haven't been the only ones to pick up on The Swayback's talent as of late. The band will be recording the follow-up to Long Gone Lads at award-winning music industry veteran Daniel Catullo's Spiral Recording studio in Hollywood with Andy Johns (Led Zeppelin IV, Exile on Main Street, Marquee Moon). And don't miss the September issue of Spin, which will feature the Swayback in the magazine's "Rock City" section on Denver.

06/09/08 UPDATES:

4AD will be releasing the new album from Stereolab in August and the band will be touring the US the following month. Chemical Chords is the first proper album from Stereolab since 2004’s Margerine Eclipse. It features 13 tracks and is a collection of “purposefully short, dense, fast pop songs,” according to Tim Gane, brimming with Motown-like drums, Sean O’Hagan’s finest baroque-pop brass and string arrangements and etched with some of Laetitia Sadier’s most eloquent, mellifluous vocal performances to date, it is, nonetheless, classic Stereolab; like all their best work, a perfect equipoise between an implausibly cool past and a shamelessly exotic future.

06/06/08 UPDATES:

XL Recordings is going to be releasing the new album from Ratatat, LP3, on July 8. LP3 is the third studio album from the band, the follow-up to 2006's Classics and 2004's self-titled debut. Since the release of Classics, Ratatat have toured relentlessly, headlining shows around the world. They were asked to open for Daft Punk at Los Angeles Sports Arena back in June 2007, before they jetted off to play shows in Hawaii and Japan. LP3 has a much broader palette of sounds than the band's previous albums. It's more dynamic with a leaning towards keyboards as opposed to guitars, and live percussion rather than programmed beats. It sounds like the album Ratatat has wanted to make for some time; equally stripped back and fuller sounding. LP3 is overflowing with ideas and with more pop and dancefloor moments mixed in with their unique take on atmospheric, instrumental rock. Ratatat, as per usual, will be touring and touring and touring this year and probably into next.

LA's favorite tropical punks Abe Vigoda will release the much anticipated Skeleton on PostPresentMedium Records on July 8. The band will support the record with a July tour with buddies No Age, but first the boys will play some warm up shows at their home away from home, The Smell. Check out our tour page for a complete list of dates.

The Swayback recently released its newest effort Long Gone Lads on the band's own label of the same name. The band was asked to curate the live stage at The Electric Daisy Carnival that will be held in Colorado on June 14th. The Swayback was also asked to write about Colorado for the German publication Indie Travel Guide which will also feature entries by Albert Hammond Jr, and members of Hot Hot Heat and Trail of Dead among others. The Denver trio recently blew through some California dates and currently has several shows lined up including a hometown festival with Gnarls Barkley and Blonde Redhead.
