Joe Shithead Keithley and his Band of Rebels

Joe Shithead Keithley - Activist/Author/Godfather of Canadian Punk!

What do you get when Joe Keithley comes to town? Well friends, in short, a whole lot! He’s a world renowned musician and songwriter, an activist, an author, a spoken word artist, the godfather of Canadian punk and the founder of Sudden Death Records.

Keithley is best known as Joe Shithead, the leader of Canada’s legendary punk pioneers D.O.A. Joe and the band have been barnstorming the world for almost 30 years with their unique combo of punk anthems, people power activism and humor.

This 14 song solo album combines punk-a-billy, ska, punk and roots rock. It’s funny, political, upbeat, and incredibly energetic. The songs talk about smokin’ pot, troublemaking, Star Trek, revolution, and fucking with corporations.

In his upcoming new solo CD, Joe Keithley adds some surprising new sounds! The seeds for the new solo record can be traced back to Joe’s eye and ear opening sojourn as a teenager to Jamaica in 1973. He experienced and heard reggae music in it’s early days. The vibe of that trip has stayed with him over the years and you will hear that in this release. The 12 guest musicians are loosely known as “the Rebels” and include Randy Rampage(D.O.A., Annilhilator), Kevin Kane (Grapes Of Wrath), Jesse Zubot (Zubot and Dawson), The Great Baldini (D.O.A., Dog Eat Dogma), John Korsrud (Hard Rubber Orchestra) and Bill Runge (Hard Rubber Orchestra).

Joe Shithead Keithley, Canada’s infamous anti-hero, has won over a couple of generations of fans and performers through his work in D.O.A., his writing and his activism. He’s influenced artists like Green Day, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Nirvana, Rancid, Henry Rollins, Jello Biafra and Ian Mckaye.

Joe’s gut instincts and street savvy have always placed him at the forefront of activism. His people power orientated politics have had him and D.O.A.raising money through concerts and benefit records for many worthy causes over the years. Joe has played benefit shows for; anti-globalization, rape relief, rock against radiation, rock against racism, union rights, and environmental groups, to name a few. Joe has also run three times for the Green Party in suburban Vancouver, finishing with 15% of the vote last time out.

When asked why he has recorded a solo album when D.O.A. is still going strong, Shithead had this to say; “I have to stretch out and try new things, this is a different way to fight the system. Band of Rebels is like an extension of D.O.A., musically it’s a little different, but it’s still nuts and it’s still meant to cause trouble and stir shit up!”

In 2002 Mayor Larry Campbell of Vancouver, in his 1st official act of office, named December 21st “D.O.A. Day in Vancouver”. Joe has also worked as an actor and a talk show host on The Joe Show. But that’s enough for now, sooner or later you will see “The Professional Troublemaker” Joe Shithead Keithley. Whether you like it or not!
